The MLS resumes this weekend, as some of the top clubs prepare to face each other. Multiple matches have playoff implications, with the heart of the season upon us.

Colorado Rapids vs. New York City FC

Two of the top clubs in the MLS will face each other on national television on Saturday afternoon. NYCFC are currently at the top of the Eastern Conference table, and the Colorado Rapids are in second place in the Western Conference. This match is not only important in the playoff picture, but also has importance in the race for the supporters shield.

The Rapids haven't lost an MLS match since April 10th.

However, their recent run of form has only seen them pick up seven points. Four out of the last five matches have ended in draws for them. A win this weekend could put them back on top in the West and get them back on track after a series of draws.

NYCFC are holding a two point advantage in the East at the moment. Their recent loss to the New York Red Bulls saw their lead trimmed down last weekend. This match will give them an opportunity to rebound and pick up a much needed win at home. NYCFC have the worst home record in the Eastern Conference.

New England Revolution vs. Orlando City SC

Both sides sit in sixth and seventh place in the Eastern Conference coming into this weekend. A win for Orlando City will put them right back into the thick things.

For the Revolution a win could move them up a spot in the standings. These two clubs met in April twice. Both of those matches ended in a 2-2 draw.

Orlando City has been barely hanging on for the past few weeks. They've only taken three points from their last five matches. After this weekends match they will face two clubs at the bottom of the table in the next two weeks.

This makes this weekends match all the more important, as they have a real opportunity to move up the table in the next few weeks.

The Revolution come into this match in the better form. Taking seven points from their last five matches. They also recently advanced to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals.

Philadelphia Union vs. Real Salt Lake

This match features two sides that have fallen off the pace at the top. At the beginning of the month both were in the battle for first place in the Eastern and Western Conferences. However, in the past two weeks they've found some bad runs of form. The Union are coming off an embarrassing 5-1 loss to the Montreal Impact last weekend. They've only won twice since in the last six matches and are holding onto third place in the east. A win this weekend could put them back in first place if results elsewhere go their way.Real Salt Lake haven't won a match since June 23rd. Four of their last five matches have ended in draws. A win would be massive on the road this weekend.
