Draymond Green and Klay Thompson may have lost out on the NBA title in heartbreaking fashion on June 19, but a pair of gold medals could help to alleviate the agony of defeat. Both Golden State Warriors starters are headed to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio as part of the US men's Basketball team, according to recent reports by a number of news outlets.

Men's Olympic basketball: Who's in?

Thompson and Green, who won a record-breaking 73 regular season games with the Warriors before losing the league championship to theCleveland Cavaliers, will be part of the star-studded Olympic lineup that will represent the nation at the upcoming Olympic Games.

In addition to the duo, eight other men who are rumored to be part of the 12-player squad include:

  • Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder
  • Paul George, Indiana Pacers
  • DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento Kings
  • Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks
  • DeAndre Jordan, Los Angeles Clippers
  • Jimmy Butler, Chicago Bulls
  • Kyle Lowry, Toronto Raptors
  • DeMar DeRozan, Toronto Raptors

The US Olympic team remains hopeful that Cavaliers' star Kyrie Irving, who teamed up with LeBron James to dominate the Warriors during the NBA Finals, will join the Olympic squad. The full 12-man roster is scheduled to be revealed sometime next week.

James, Curry out

The list of players who have confirmed plansto skip the Olympics includes a host of talented athletes, including 2016 NBA Finals MVP James, reigning league MVP Stephen Curry, Kawhi Leonard, and Damian Lillard.

Although victory is never guaranteed, the US men's basketball team has historically fared extremely well in Olympic competition. The nation has won the gold medal at five of the last six games, and has successfully medaled at every non-boycotted Olympics since the sport was first contested in 1936.

The team, which will be coached by Duke University legend MikeKrzyzewski, will come together for a training camp in Las Vegas in late-July.

Basketball action in Rio will take place throughout the duration of the Olympics, beginning on Aug. 6 and concluding on Aug. 21.
