The ATP 250 tournament in Stuttgart, namely Mercedes Cup, might not be a real center of attractionfor many, but in the past years, its main draw has been spiced up with several illustrious names. Last year it was Rafael Nadal who competed in this event, subsequently claiming the title. In 2016, another Tennis titan is about to delight the audience, namely Roger Federer. For the Swiss, it will be the fifth appearance of the season on the ATP circuit. Still without a title in 2016, Federer can start to pile up some wins in Stuttgart as a solid foundation for the upcoming grass season.

Federer`s thoughts.

According to ESPN, the Swiss tennis legend stated that his expectations aren`t that high as people might think. Once again, he emphasized the crucial aspect regarding his struggles with health issues over the past month. Furthermore, he is convinced that the decision to pull out from Roland Garros was the wisest to make at that time. Moreover, the weatherconditions had nothing to do with his drastic judgement.

In his opinion, when it comes to a Grand Slam event, the player who is proving to be the strongest will get all the praise and glory. So, he withdrew from the French Open in order to avoid any further complications due to harsh conditions. A soggy clay court is extremely demanding for every player, especially for someone at his age and physical yield

The schedule at Mercedes Cup.

Being designated as the 1st seeded, Roger Federer got a 1st round bye.

In the second round, he will play against Taylor Fritz (65 ATP). American rising star, 18, might prove to be an excellent test. With 16 years gap between these two players, it is a remarkable duel amongst generations. It is also the first time they will compete against each other. Another young tennis star resides on the upper half of the draw, where Federer is holding the headlines, namely Dominic Thiem (7 ATP).The young Austrian hope, 22, reached the semifinals at the French Open last week, where he was outrun by Novak Djokovic.

But as Federer stated, an early exit would not bother him; every single match in which he is able to compete at his best is a blessing for him, a sign that his body is still by his side.
