Kevin Ferguson, a.k.a. mixed martial arts sensationKimbo Slicehasdied at a hospital in Margate, Florida near his home in Coral Springs at the age of 42. The cause of death, as well as the reason for his recent hospitalization, have yet to be announced. It's reported that no foul play is suspected. At the time of his death, he was signed to Bellator MMA and had been scheduled to headline Bellator 158 in London. His last fight was on February 19th in Houston, Texas.

Remembering the prolific fighter.

Slice was born in Nassau, Bahamas, and moved to south Florida with his mother and two brothers when he was young.

He began his career as a bouncer and bodyguard and began participating in unsanctioned street fighting in 2003. During his first fight, which was recorded and leaked to the internet, Slice left a large gash on his opponent's right eye, leading to the creation of his nickname 'Slice'. He eventually attached that to his childhood nickname, 'Kimbo', creating the persona he would use for the rest of his career. His fighting videos became wildly popular on the internet and was propelled into the MMA spotlight. Slice began to train at the Freestyle fighting academy and had his first official MMA fight against Olympic gold medalist boxer Ray Mercer in 2007, whom he defeated.

He will not be forgotten.

He went on to fight in the main event of Elite XC: Street Certified as well as the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He signed on to Bellator MMA in 2015, almost 5 years after his last UFC fight, which had been predicted to be the last of his career. His actual last fight was on February 19th, 2016 against Dada5000, a.k.a.

Dhafir Harris, who he defeated in a three-round decision."He carried himself as a true professional during his time in our organization," said a representative from UFC about Slice on Monday. He also said that Slice would not be "forgotten for his fighting style and transcendent image." Fans will always remember Slice as he had a "warm personality and commitment to his family and friends." Slice is survived by his six children and his long-time girlfriend, who he was engaged to at the time of his death.
