The rise of the Running Back

Several years ago, there were some people who were calling for the decline of the running back. As offenses became more pass oriented, a lot of people felt like the running back was going out of style. After the last few seasons, it is easy to see why this was a bold statement that ultimately became false. There are plenty of teams returning a ton of talent at the running back position this year. Alabama and Ohio State always have a stable of running backs, but there are plenty of other teams who are strong in this area as well. Here are our team position ranks for the running back position.

Not many fans got to see Stanford display their great running backs last year. Freshman running back Christian McCaffrey ran all over a really bad Iowa team in the bowl. This was his coming out party despite finishing second in the Heisman trophy ballot. There are a lot of defenses who will be keying in on him to stop him. However, good luck accomplishing that.

After a bad injury against Tennessee last year, Nick Chubb looks to rebound in 2016 right where he left off. Coming off of a terrible injury is always difficult, but this is especially true in the SEC. There are a lot of people who wonder aloud about whether he will ever be back at full strength. Georgia has a solid offensive line, and with a freshman quarterback they will be looking to Chubb to lead.

Leonard Fournette is one of the best running backs to play the game in the past decade. Without any other offensive weapons, LSU was able to dominate some teams because of his play. There are few players like him in the country, and barring a terrible season he will probably go in the first round of the draft.

Florida State

Florida State continues to amass talent in their program. Dalvin Cook is a great running back who is underrated by a lot of fan bases. Over the past year, he has really committed himself to the weight room as he looks to gain speed and strength.

No matter who is taking the ball, Alabama always has a five star ready at running back.

After Derrick Henry was drafted by the Titans in the second round, there are plenty of players ready to carry the torch. Make no mistake, they will have a strong running game this year.
