The rise of Baylor

For decades, Baylor was a little known school in Texas never known for its athletics. Art Briles took over the Baylor program nearly a decade ago, and during his time he was able to bring Baylor into the national conversation. There are a lot of people who believe that he was a coach on the rise, and many schools were looking to him to take over their school. In fact, it was rumored that the University of Texas had their eyes on Briles if Charlie Strong did not work out.

However, the career of Art Briles took a fast turn after word of the latest scandal came out.

In this scandal, it was alleged that Art Briles knew about the past of former players involved in violence against women. This is obviously a serious charge, and Baylor claimed that they knew nothing of this. However, there is a lot of evidence to the contrary. Art Briles was asked to resign, and now the entire Football program has a giant question mark around it.

Recruiting

Imagine being the new head coach at Baylor and explaining the current events to parents. There is a new push at many colleges around the country to protect women's right more vigorously (this is a great thing by the way). Schools like Baylor are going to be more in the news with this new oversight. Last week, a former Vanderbilt football player was convicted of raping another college student.

In this terrible event, the school kicked him off the team after it became known what had happened. This is the first time a coach has been kicked off for indiscretion in this area.

The future of Baylor

Several recruits from the 2016 recruiting class have already gone to other schools. In fact, several have gone to the University of Texas. This is a huge blow for Baylor, and the true damage remains to be seen.

There are a lot of people that the school will never recover from this scandal. Recruiting is going to be more difficult, and the school can no longer afford to take risks on players who may have discipline problems. Baylor is now facing a tough year ahead despite returning a talented roster.
