Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the year is about to begin. In men's singles competition, things are downright interesting. Earlier today the draw was made and the outcome set some amazing potential clashes. In spite of this festive atmosphere, some bad news and updates arose. Roger Federer withdrew because of medical issues related to his back injury. Also, the medical problems forced Gael Monfils, this year`s runner-up in Monte Carlo, to quit. Monfils (14 ATP) is currently struggling with a viral infection. He also was one of the hosts` favorites and a player who puts the viewers` need for entertainment ahead of the outcome.

Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic

Roger Federer's withdrawal announcement has thrown a bit of sadness, but this fact has an outcome more than interesting- Rafael Nadal (5 ATP) became the number 4 seeded player thus managing to avoid a possibleclash with Novak Djokovic (1 ATP) in the quarterfinals. However, the fate appeared to be hostile thus the Spaniard may bump into Serb`s way in a potential semifinal. This, obviously, would happen if both Tennis players would respect their status as top-seeded players and manage to get there. So far, this season, Nadal failed to live up to Djokovic`s unreal pace.

Stan Wawrinka vs Andy Murray

On the other half of the men`s singledraw, Andy Murray (2 ATP)and Stan Wawrinka (4 ATP) are the main favorites.

The Scotsman comes after a huge triumph in Rome against Djokovic. An extremely important victory allowing the Scotsman to strengthen the second place in the ATP rankings. Overall, the clay season was prolific for Murray, at least for now. A runner-up in Madrid and champion title in Rome entitle him to hope for as much as he can get at the French Open.

On the other hand, Stan Wawrinka`s pace is rather fluctuating. There were plenty of matches in which he crushed his opponents, but these moments were usually followed by inexplicable failures. The Swiss player is still the defending champion at the French Open. Last year`s triumph against Djokovic gave in a genuine sample of his physical and mental strong-points.
