As of Monday, the ATP circuit moves its center of attention to Italy’s capital, where the Masters 1000 tournament in Foro Italico is to be held. The Italian clay will be once more under the frenzy of an important event regarding both men’s and women’s Tennis. (There will be a tournament from the Premier 5 category in the women’s competition).

When it comes to the men’s singles competition, it seems that Roger Federer will participate as well. The draw has already taken place, and if there aren’t any more unfortunate events, the Swiss will make his comeback to the ATP circuit right in the second round of the tournament.

A highly perilous journey.

However, Federer has some bad news to face. According to the draw, the potential opponents he could meet in his attempt to match the results he had last year (a final lost against Djokovic) are quite redoubtable and may pose a threat to his success.

In the second round, Roger will play against the winner of the match between Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov. From that point on, things may become even more interesting. Dominic Thiem could be a potential opponent in the 3rd round. The quarterfinals are expected to bring in a potential encounter between Federer and Nishikori, which is certainly a battle many people dream to see. Nishikori is the player whose style of playing best resembles the one of Novak Djokovic.

And finally, Federer’s opponent in a potential semifinal might be Djokovic or Nadal – real titanic clashes.

A last test before the Roland Garros

The event in Rome is the last important test before the French Open. The Swiss player has so far played only one clay tournament, namely the Monte Carlo. Everybody believes that this stands as a drawback for the Swiss player.

This year, his goals for the Roland Garros will definitely be moderate.

The injuries he suffered this year and the subsequent periods of inactivity weigh enormously in this year’s equation. Federer will have to find a way to survive the unfortunate circle of which he has been the center since February.
