While the whole world knows that former WWF Women's Champion Chyna passed away on Wednesday (real name Joanie Laurer), it is unlikely that WWE will do much more than simply acknowledge her death with a photo of Chyna at the beginning of WWE Thursday Night SmackDown. While the newly-dubbed WWE Women's Championship and the new crop of women from NXT aren't directly related to Chyna and the Attitude Era, there's no question that her presence in the late 90s and early 2000s helped change the perception of women's professional Wrestling

Although her demons and tabloid-headline life is what many will remember her for, members of the WWE Universe can remember her as a total game-changer for professional wrestling, and someone who was genuinely capable of competing alongside both men and women in the ring.

What follows is a look at five of the best matches Joanie "Chyna" Laurer had during her stint with WWE.

5) Triple H vs. The Rock at WWF SummerSlam 1998

Chyna's initial role in WWE was as a bodyguard/valet for Hunter Hearst Helmsley. As an eventual member of both the original (HBK-fronted) Degeneration-X and the arguably-more-popular first Degeneration-X reboot (Triple H-fronted), her influence at ringside proved invaluable for Helmsley as he battled The Rock and the Nation of Domination for the Intercontinental Championship in a no-disqualification Ladder Match at the biggest show of the summer. Even before she was officially an in-ring competitor, she was a force to be reckoned with.

4) Chyna vs. Trish Stratus on WWF Monday Night RAW, April 30, 2001

This match was more about the transition Chyna helped the women make during the Attitude Era. Being a fitness model in a vaguely-cowgirl get-up wasn't going to cut it when Chyna held the WWF Women's Championship. Moving on to Lita after this Monday Night RAW match, it was a signal for people like Trish Stratus that she needed to evolve into something more than a pretty face and a hot body if she wanted to be the WWF Women's Champion.

3) Chyna vs. Ivory at WrestleMania X-Seven

While Chyna had been working programs with the likes of Chris Jericho and Jeff Jarrett, it seemed obvious that she would have no problem capturing the WWF Women's Championship if she really wanted. After returning from an injury she suffered at the hands of the Right To Censor, Chyna had her true "WrestleMania Moment" by taking the strap from Ivory.

2) Chyna vs. Chris Jericho at WWF Survivor Series 1999

Arguably the best feud in Chyna's career, her match against Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series 1999 will easily go down as a classic. Their rematch in December on WWF SmackDown led to the storyline in which they were temporarily co-champions.

1) Chyna vs. Jeff Jarrett at WWF No Mercy 1999

The match in which Chyna became the first female Intercontinental Champion in history was so iconic that TNA continued the feud over a decade later, this time involving Karen Jarrett and Kurt Angle instead of Debra and Miss Kitty.

Given the drug-fueled porn-and-reality-TV lifestyle that Laurer lived during her final years (along with the personal issues she reportedly had with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon), it seems unlikely that Chyna will ever be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
