World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) wrestler Chyna has died. The woman with a unmistakable sinewyphysique that was a cross betweena sports action figure and a video game vixen was called"the 9th Wonder of the World". Her body was found in her Redondo Beach, California apartment on Wednesday. Shewas only 45-years-old.

Early life and professional career

Born Joanie Laurer in Rochester, New York, the future Wrestling star came from a troubled home. It was filled with alcohol and domestic abuse and became the catalyst that would drive Laurer into the fitness world.

While at theUniversity of Tampa, Laurerlearned to speak 3 additional languages while continuing to pursue her fitness goals on the side.

Unfortunately, trouble followed Laurer and she was "allegedly" raped by two men after drinking too much at a party. However, it didn't stop her from graduating with a 3.9 GPA.

After college Laurer gravitated towrestling. She trained at Wladek "Killer" Kowalski's professional wresting school in 1995 as theonly female student. A year later her prowess got her discovered by Paul "Triple H" Levesque, who brought her into the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which would later become the WWE. She got her start as Triple H's bodyguard and was renamed, "Chyna." It was a playful but endearing name in the same sense that a large man would be called "Tiny."

In the WWF, Laurer broke records.

She wrestled both women and men and became the first woman to qualify for the King of the Ringand the Royal Rumble in 1999. She is still the only female Intercontinental Champion to date.

Hercharacter's storyline featured several betrayals of Triple H's character in favor of Vince McMahon and his son Shane McMahon and a on-screen relationship with the late wrestler Eddie Guerrero.

Guerrero and Chyna split after she caught him cheating. Ironically, Laurer would also split from real-life boyfriend Triple H after she claimed she found him cheating with Stephanie McMahon. The dissolution of their relationship marked the end of her WWF career in 2001. During her tenure, Chyna was featured in Smackdown!, SummerSlam, WrestleMania X-Seven andJudgement Day.

Life outside ofthe WWF

Laurer kept her Chyna persona in the news in a variety of ways but had to use the name Chynna Doll, because Chyna was trademarked by the WWF. She would later legally change her name to Chyna.

While still in the WWF, she posed nude for Playboy magazine in 2000 and again in 2002. She also released a sex tape with then boyfriend, Sean Waltman called 1 Night in Chyna in 2004, as well several other pornographic films. Laurer would try to resurrect her wrestling career in 2002 with New Japan Pro Wrestling and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling(TNA) in 2011, but she only spent a year with each organization.

It was then that Laurer turned to reality television. She was featured on Fear Factor, The Surreal Life: Fame Games and a sad turn on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. The demons of her traumatic childhood had resurfaced and Laurer was under the care of Dr. Drew for alcohol, drug abuse and mental illness problems. Speculation is that the sex tape and other pornography ventures played a part in her downward spiral. Several suicide attempts followed before her death was announced on Twitter yesterday. Laurer had been taking anti-depressants and sleeping pills, but the official cause of death is still unknown.
