It's a rare thing in the modern NBA game for players to remain with a single team for the duration of their career. It's rarer still for an All-Star and NBAchampion to do the same. Since being drafted by the Miami Heat in the stacked 2003 draft, Dwyane Wade has been the one constant for the team over the course of the last 13 seasons, and, it seems only fitting that Wade should reach the latest milestone of his hall of fame career with the team that originally drafted him so many seasons ago.

Career-defining moment for Dwyane Wade

Since first coming into the league out of Marquette, Wade quickly transformed himself into a top-tier NBA talent.

Whether it was as "Flash" alongside Shaquille O'Neal, or as part of the three-pronged attack that included the likes of Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh, Wade has been the one constant for his Miami team throughout the years, personnel changes, and various title runs. While Wade certainly still has his legs and still has some gas in the tank, at 34-years-old, there's no denying the fact that Dwyane is in the twilight of his career. That said, it probably made it all the more special when he reached the 20,000 point mark in a 122-101 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers and former teammate/longtime friend/fellow 2003 draftee LeBron James.

"For me, the coolest thing is that I've been wearing this one jersey -- and I got all 20,000 of those in a Miami Heat uniform," Wade said.

"I never came into the NBA thinking about 20,000 points or a lot of things I've accomplished. It's all amazing being a part of the history of the game." (via ESPN).

As the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference at 40-29, it seems unlikely to imagine that the Heat will make a deep playoff run this year (or in the years to come).

It's safe to say that their championship aspirations left with LeBron James once he decided to go back home to Cleveland, still, it had to be a special moment for Wade to reach this career milestone against James, and, as Wade said himself, even more special to have been able to accomplish such a feat with one team.

Even with the Heat likely headed for lottery land, this is a great individual achievement for the former NBA champion and future hall-of-famer.
