January was a tough month for Arsenal. Although they started their defence of the FA Cup looking strong, with victories over Sunderland and Burnley, their Premier League form was not that good. Arsene Wenger’s side played four games in the first month of the 2016 but managed to win only once, beating Newcastle at the start of January. Despite having a hard fixture list, only 5 points out of 12 is a poor result for a club who want to win the Premier League title this year.

Nevertheless some players showed great form in January. Let’s take a look at the three best Arsenal players of the previous month!

Aaron Ramsey

In the first month of the new year, the Welsh midfielder returned to his preferred position in the middle of the pitch. He was an engine for the whole team, as every attack started from the player with the number 16 on his back. Ramsey came up from the bench to score a goal in the game against Sunderland. He also found the net at Anfield Road, where he collected both assist and goal for his team.

Aaron Ramsey is playing really well and his impact in the opposing half of the pitch is even greater than that of Santiago Cazorla, but he still has a lot to learn about dictating the tempo of the game. His partnership with Mathieu Flamini was not that impressive either. The good news for the Welshman is that Francis Coquelin is now available again, and it will be very interesting to see both players in action together.

Joel Campbell

This young player is one of the biggest surprises in the Premier League season. His revelation is similar to that of another young Arsenal player, Francis Coquelin, in the 2014-15 season. Campbell finally found his place in the Gunners’ team after being loaned out to many clubs in Spain and Greece, but in the summer he decided to stay at the Emirates Stadium. It was the right decision, as he took advantage of an injury crisis and he demonstrated his real value to the squad.

Campbell has an unusual but very attractive style of play. He’s an great dribble and at the same time he has an ability to deliver brilliant passes to his teammates. He picked up an beautiful assist to Aaron Ramsey at Anfield and he also helped with the next goals. However, he is surprisingly a great defender.
