One of the best Soccer teams in the world, Real Madrid parted ways with Spanish manager Rafael Benitez after just six months. Napoli Benitez was sacked on Monday, the day after a frustrating 2-2 draw against Valencia. Los Blancos confirmed their decision via ESPN FC. The management of Real Madrid also appointed ex-Galactico Zinedine Zidane as new manager.

'It was a hard decision for Real'

“It is really hard to announce this difficult decision, but Rafael Benitez will not be the coach of the first team.

This decision will be the best for both sides, as the results of our team were not good enough, but we are not blaming Benitez. We want to start something new in Madrid.” – Real Madrid president Florentino Perez told reporters.

Rafael Benitez was hired last summer in June to take over from Carlo Ancelotti. The Spaniard departs Madrid with Galacticos only one point in front of Villareal and ejected from the Spanish Cup – Copa del Rey. Real Madrid have won only four games out of the last eight in La Liga.

Not only the result of his team, but also the style of coaching was widely disliked by Madrid fans.

Zinedine Zidane to take over

Florentino Perez also spoke about Zinedine Zidane, who will be Real’s new manager.

Zidane was a great player not only for our club but also for France. He has been coaching only for two years, but we believe that he can achieve great things with the current squad. We gave him a lot of credit and we are pretty sure that he has enough skills to lead Real Madrid again” – president of Real Madrid said.

It's not certain if Zidane will be the manager for the long haul, but right now he will take Benitez’s place for the rest of the season, as the club will look for a replacement. The most serious candidate to take the job is Jose Mourinho, who was sacked by Roman Abramovic, the owner of Chelsea in December after his team stayed just above the relegation zone after sixteen games of the new season. Ultimately, only time will tell if this choice was the right decision, so, for now, we'll just have to wait and see.
