The Kansas City Chiefs were dead in the water. At 1-5, they looked lifeless. With the loss of star running back Jamaal Charles, the Chiefs were written off to a top-10 pick in the next NFL Draft. One of those losses was a lopsided game against the Green Bay Packers.

But, they started winning. Game after game, the wins slowly piled up. In fact, they haven't lost since dropping to 1-5. They rattled off ten straight wins to make the playoffs with an 11-5 record.

Standing in the way of an 11th consecutive victory were the Houston Texans, who took advantage of a weak division to reach the playoffs.

On Saturday, Houstonlooked listless. Kansas City's momentum carried them to a dominant 30-0 win, starting with the game's first play. After taking the opening kickoff six yards deep in the endzone, Knile Davis used his speed and vision to take it all the way for a touchdown, giving Kansas City an early 7-0 lead.It was a lead they would not relinquish.

The Houston Texans juggled quarterbacks all season and journeyman Brian Hoyer got the call. After throwing only seven interceptions all season, Hoyer was miserable against a vaunted Chiefs defense. He was picked off four times, including once by Eric Berry.

Berry's storyis an incredible one, with a triumphant return from cancer and chemotherapy. It was capped off with his big play that gave the Chiefs an early advantage against Houston.

Kansas City's offense struggled at times, but was efficient. Quarterback Alex Smith was solid, going 17 of 22 passing for 190 yards and a touchdown. He tacked on 27 yards on five rushing attempts.Spencer Ware was also effective, toting the ball 16 times for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Houston will leave the game with more questions than answers. With a 9-7 record, they made the playoffs by being the best of a bad bunch in the AFC South.

Who will be their quarterback in 2016? Hoyer played well at times, but obviously wasn't ready for the spotlight. Will the Texans move forward with him, or perhaps look for a younger option in the draft?

Kansas City's incredible season will continue. They will get either the New England Patriots or Denver Broncos next week, pending the result between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals on January 10th.
