One of the best soccer clubs in Europe, Paris Saint-Germain started the defense of their Coupe de France with a 2-1 victory against Toulouse on Tuesday night. PSG joined the group of the sixteen best teams in France this season, but it wasn’t an easy win for the last year’s title holders, as it took an 89th minute penalty-kick to get a victory.

First half

PSG coachLaurent Blanc made a few changes in the first team as he decided to play without important players like Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, and Javier Pastore. However, the team was strong enough, what can be an indication of PSG’s squad depth and strength.

The hosts were shocked when their opponents took the lead in the early stage of the game as Jacques Francois Moubandje opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the game. He took advantage of a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper and made no mistake in front of the goal.

The home side dominated the first half but they couldn’t find a way to beat Toulouse’s defense. PSG spent the rest of the first 45 minutes trying to equalize the result. Firstly, David Luiz’s free-kick was saved by the goalkeeper and then Kurzawa’s long-range strike was also captured by Toulouse’s goalie.

PSG dominated the game

In the second half Paris Saint-Germain started to move the ball faster and they took advantage of their domination in the 54th minute, when the Brazilian defender David Luiz levelled the scores with the header from a perfectly delivered corner kick from Lavezzi.

After the first goal forPSG, Laurent Blanc decided to put in the biggest star of the team – Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He came on in the 64th minute and seemed to have scored with his first contact with the ball as he put the ball into the net, but the referee’s assistant put his flag up and the goal was declined.

The hero of Paris -- Zlatan Ibrahimovic

While everyone was waiting for extra time, Spajic foolishly fouled Kurzawa in his own penalty box. Zlatan Ibrahimovic decided to take a penalty-kick in the 89th minute and he made no mistake from the spot, sending Paris Saint-Germain through to the next round of the Coupe de France.
