The ATP tournament in Doha, Qatar represents the beginning of the new season in the men's professional Tennis circuit. Although not highly rated (the winner gets only 250 points in the ATP rankings) it serves as preparation for the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open. This year's program has gathered some important names on the main draw: Novak Djokovic 1 ATP, Rafael Nadal (5), David Ferrer (7), Tomas Berdych(6).The first surprise came just in the opening round. Defending champion David Ferrer was defeated by Illya Marchenko,94 ATP 6-7 (8) 6-3, 6-2. Thus, Djokovic and Nadal have one less top contender in the field en route to the trophy.

Djokovic had no trouble in reaching the quarter finals

In two matches played so far at Doha, the current ATP leader showed the same consistent and nearly perfect game during last season. In the first round, he won without problems against Dustin Brown 6-2 6-2. In the next round, he upset Fernando Verdasco (ATP 49) and former top ten player a few years ago. Novak won 6-2 6-2, but the match had plenty of tense moments. Djokovic was forced to save two break points during the confrontation. For a place in the semifinals in Doha, Novak will play against Leonardo Mayer (ATP 45).

Nadal seems to return to a more consistent game

After a disastrous 2015 season that saw him almost drop out of the top ten, Rafael Nadal looks to regain his well-known form.

The Former world leader managed to qualify in the quarterfinals in Doha. In the first match, he gave a few thrills to his fans. He won in three sets against fellow compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta 6-7 (5) 6-3 6-1. In the next round, Nadal's game was pretty safe, without emotion or mistakes. Thus, he defeated Dutchman Robin Haase in a categorical manner 6-3, 6-2.

For a place in the semifinals, Nadalwill face Russian Andrey Kuznetsov.

The main draw is designed so that Djokovic and Nadal will ideally face in the finals. Such a match would be a perfect opportunity for these tennis players to assess their current level, while also being a real treat for fans of the sport.
