Since the New York Islanders beat the Rangers in this game, it improves their season to 14-8-4, which means they are now in third place for the Metropolitan Division.

When the Islanders beat the Rangers, the loss caused the Rangers to go down to stats of 17-6-3 for the season, but they are still ahead of the Islanders and are in first place of the Metropolitan division. The Islanders have been the winners in 4 out of their last 5 games.

Islanders beat the Rangers in latest team play with both excitement, boredom

The first period of the game between the Islanders and the Rangers was somewhat boring, but by the second period the Islanders scored to get onto the board as Dan Girardi hit the puck over the boards and caused a game penalty delay after Keith Yandle got put in the penalty box for hooking Brock Nelson.

Then, the Islanders’ captain Tavares won over Lundqvist’s glove during the 2nd period, having only 37 seconds left for the five to three-man advantage. Then, with about 2:30 on the clock, Viktor Stalberg dashed in front of the Islanders’ net, and put it through Halak’s legs to make a score.

Third Quarter, overtime periods made difference in getting the win

Then, during the third period, as well as during some resulting overtime, things got crazy again and remained tight the whole way. During the shootout, the Islanders were first and Lundqvist came out of the net and cut off the angles, but then Kyle Okposo got over him to place the Islanders in the lead by a score of one to nothing.

That ended up being the only shootout score in the game, thus causing the Islanders to get the win. One reason the Islanders came out on top was that the Rangers missed hitting the net many times, costing them the game. Plus, experts say they made too many puck turnovers and overall didn’t play very well.

The Rangers will now head to Madison Square Garden on Thursday to play against the Colorado Avalanches and the Islanders are off for a day before they host the St. Louis Blues, but the Islanders beat Rangers this time in the cross-town rivalry and the players can be happy for their victory.
