Current leadersof EnglishPremier League, Manchester City, progressed to the semifinals in the Capital One Cup after demolishing Hull City 4-1 at their own stadium on Tuesday night. The Citizens dominated the game from thestartand showed how destructivethey could bewhen playing against lower-league teams.

The hosts controlled the game and never looked likelosing. Manuel Pelligrini started his best offensive midfielder, David Silva, for the first time in two months and the little Spaniard showed what Manchester City has missed without him. City were largely untroubled as Pelligrini’s side dominated the midfield and they created many clear-cut chances.

They should have scored four or five goals in the first half, but Wilfried Bony just couldn’t find a way to beat Hull'sgoalkeeper. He finally succeed in the 11th minute, when he converteda prefect pass from Kevin De Bruyne.

Meanwhile, the visitors were able to force saves from City’s goalkeeper, as Isaac Hayes and Chuba Akpom both failed to beat the ex-Malaga goalie. Despite chances from Hull City, the visitors continued to impress with their perfectly organized plays. They failed to score second goal in the first 45 minutes andthe score was 1-0 at the break.

In the second half Manchester City tried to double their lead, but Hull City’s defence wasable to deal with the pace of Kevin De Bruyne, Jesus Navas, Raheem Sterling and David Silva.

The second goal finally came in the 80th minute fromsubstituteKelechi Iheanacho.

Just few minutes later Kevin De Bruyne, took advantage of Hull City’s defensive error and stab home Manchester City’s third goal. The Belgian star wasn’t done because, two minutes later, he used a free kick to record his second and City’s fourth goal of the game.

The visitors added a late consolation goal, but it meant nothing as Manchester City progressed to the next round of the Capital One Cup.
