The NFL will show three games on Thanksgiving Day, and to kick things off the first Thanksgiving Football event is in Detroit where the Lions will host the Philadelphia Eagles in a fight between two teams that seem to be unexpectedly headed in reverse directions.

Eagles struggling, lost last two games

The Eagles won over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9, which brought them to .500, but then they ended up losing games to both the Dolphins and the Buccaneers. Last weekend the Eagles lost 45-17 against the Buccaneers with Jameis Winston leading his team to victory.

It would seem the Eagles have some sort of issues, which some say begin with their quarterback, Sam Bradford, who didn’t play and is not expected to do so against the Lions either. Instead, the Eagles expect to start Mark Sanchez again for the Thanksgiving football event. It will be the Eagles’ second time to play in a Thanksgiving event.

Since 1933, the Eagles have had a record of 17-13-2 over the Detroit Lions, only losing once in the past 20 years. The head coach Chip Kelly has been up against the Lions once during a game in 2013 when he first started working with the Eagles and the Eagles won 34-20.

Lions could have advantage during Thanksgiving football event

The Thanksgiving football experts say that Detroit looks to be the team with the advantage so far leading into today’s game. Detroit was 1-7 ahead of their bye week, and they have won their last two outings. The Lions have played every Thanksgiving since 1934, so it’s like a tradition for them to be playing football today.

The experts say the team needs more offensive production, but they were successful last week when they played the Raiders and used a three back system complete with Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick and Joique Bell.

If they want to do well today, wideout Calvin Johnson also needs to keep up the good work, as well.

Cornerback Darius Slay is also someone to watch, since he has had a factor in the team’s defensive turnaround. He limited Amari Cooper of the Raiders to just one catch for four yards. So, if he can remain close to the Eagles' wideouts, then he can likely keep the pressure going on Philadelphia.

The Thanksgiving football game between the Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles is scheduled for 12:30 pm Eastern Standard Time and they will be playing in Detroit at Ford Field.
