Falcao was one of Europe's most feared strikers just a few years ago until a knee injury significantly hampered his potentially prosperous career. However, is it fair to compare Falcao's signing with that of Shevchenko and Fernando Torres who were bought for $48 million and $78 million respectively ?

Yes, all three players are definitely big-name signings, however, Torres and Shevchenko were signed for a significant amount of money and Chelsea fans expected both of them to produce performances that justify their respective price tags. Furthermore, both Torres and Shevchenko were expected to be first choice players for the Blues, replacing or partnering Chelsea Legend Didier Drogba.

None of these scenarios are true in the case of Falcao, who is signed to Chelsea on a one year loan and half the salary that he was on when playing for Manchester United. So this definitely isn't a financial gamble. Plus, Falcao isn't expected to be the first choice striker for Chelsea, Diego Costa occupies that position. Nor is the Columbian forward expected to score 25+ goals a season. So there is no pressure on Falcao to perform like there was on Torres and Andrei Shevchenko.

Furthermore, Falcao has replaced 37-year old Chelsea Veteran Didier Drogba. Even though Drogba's performances were decent at times last season, he still isn't the old Drog. All Falcao need's to do is better Drogba's performances of last season to prove that he Chelsea didn't make any mistake in recruiting him. However, Falcao has the potential to do much more than just better Drogba's performances.

The way the Columbian international dispatched his two penalty kicks during pre-season proves that he is still as clinical in front of goal as he was a few years ago.The Chelsea new boy has not lost his confidence like Fernando Torres had in front of goal.

If Falcao plays as a back up to Diego Costa, contributes with the odd goal or assist when he comes on, then Chelsea will be massive favorites to win the title again. He's still only 29 years old, old so there are definitely a few years of youth in him. All Mourinho need's to do is what he does best, motivate Falcao and make him feel like he is a very important member of the Chelsea squad. Even if Falcao scores 11 or 12 important goals this season, his signing would prove to be one of Jose Mourinho's best bargain signings ever.

Falcao will get more game time at Chelsea than he did at Manchester United due the fact that Man Utd were only playing in the Premier League during most of last season. They hadn't qualified to play in Europe, exited the Capital One cup in their very first game. He played a few FA cup games but that's about it. So to be fair to Falcao, he didn't get enough game time under Louis Van Gaal to adapt to the premier league. This will not be the case for him this season which is good News for Falcao. Hence, Chelsea fans would be hoping that the Columbian superstar come's good for them and there is a high possibility that he will.
