California gets an annual influx of music lovers. Fans arrived from distant places to attend the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, but a sudden fire acted as a dampener to the festivities. It happened soon after the end of the first night’s programs at around 2 AM. There was an explosion followed by a huge fire at the Coachella mobile showers located near the center of the campsite. A witness mentioned hearing an explosion. Video footage showed a rectangular building, believed to be the showers, engulfed in flames. In the panic, someone was seen running out wrapped in a towel.

Daily Mail UK reports that fire engines arrived on the spot to tackle and contain the fire and no one was injured. Two trailers were involved and while one suffered damage, the other was destroyed. Fire crews remained on the scene for an hour to ensure safety. Last year there was also a fire during the annual Coachella music festival. It was more intense and was a six-mile-wide fire that destroyed acres of vegetation but revelers were not in danger.

Big names on the stage at Coachella

The first day’s program ended with offerings from rapper Childish Gambino.

He is the alter ego of actor Donald Glover and was the attraction of the opening night. He belted out a number of his hits and it was late into the night when he sang one of his best-known politically charged songs "This Is America." But many in the audience had gone back to their camps.

The festival presented an opportunity to Country Music singer Kacey Musgraves (30) to showcase her talents.

She had just won her best album Grammy in February and made her Coachella debut. Daily Mail UK goes on to add, that other well-known names feature on the stage of the Coachella music festival like British rock band The 1975, Janelle Monae, Selena Gomez, Tame Impala, and Ariana Grande. Apart from them, there are Pusha T and the actor Idris Elba who were on stage with their shows.

Weekend one ended on Sunday and weekend two will be between April 19 to 21.
