The latest chapter of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” manga was released this month. It revealed life after academy for Boruto Uzumaki, Sarada Uchiha, Mitsuki, and more of their friends. While the Anime Series adaptation is still picking up things and revealing events during the academy era, the manga has already moved the story forward, even way after the canon events in the animated movie, “Boruto: Naruto The Movie.”

Life after the academy

The manga officially confirmed that the events in the anime are canon.

The animated adaptation of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is the prequel to the story that takes place after “Naruto Shippuden.” Unlike the anime, Boruto and the other young main characters are already full-fledged ninjas.

However, they’re still rookies who have to make a name for themselves.

Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki were officially teamed up. The three are the children of the major protagonists and antagonist in “Naruto,” who were also heralded as the two generations of Legendary Saanin. In “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” Chapter 18, the Hokage gave the team a new mission, which revisited a dreadful memory from the past Chunin Exams.

The young ninjas were tasked to guard Katasuke Tono and the village’s scientific experiment. Apparently, Katasuke will be bringing a scientific ninja weapon called Kote to another facility to enhance it. Naruto and Sasuke Uchiha decided that it was best to explore all their options in case another war breaks out.

Upon arriving at their destination, the new chapter revealed that Sumire Kakei now works for the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team. As shown in the anime, Sumire was Boruto’s classmate, and she was the class president.

She actually had an entire short arc dedicated to her, which explored her past.

Sumire became a full-fledged rookie ninja as revealed in the manga, but she opted out of the Chunin Exams because she wanted to take up research. She eventually became one of the most outstanding staff in the research facility.

Konohamaru clashes with Kara?

The young ninjas’ current mission was postponed after they were given a new and urgent one, which tasked them to look for a missing ninja. One of the oldest characters in the series, Konohamaru Sarutobi has made quite a name for himself from being Hiruzen’s nephew to becoming one of the most respected Jonin (elite ninja) in the village.

Konohamaru was last seen investigating a fallen aircraft, which is suspected to belong to Kara, and there are hints that he has encountered some. It’s most likely that Konohamaru has fallen into the enemy’s hands, and he needs to be rescued.

Kara is an unknown organization introduced as new antagonists in the manga. One war veteran from the original “Naruto” series was also revealed to be a villain now mingling with Kara. In “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” Chapter 18, the young ninjas were ordered to look for and retrieve Konohamaru. Their new search-and-rescue mission will be revealed in the next chapter.
