The latest chapter of the original manga series of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is out and it featured a shocking revelation especially to the avid fans of the original “Naruto” story. The new chapter revealed a familiar face, a ninja who once played a huge role in the Fourth Great Ninja War, but he’s returned as a villain.

The previous chapters of “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” introduced a new group of villains that goes by the name, Kara. The first time they were revealed, the unidentified individuals made it clear that they were after Boruto because of his special markings.

Naruto gives Boruto a new mission

The new chapter of “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” opened up with Konohamaru dealing with Kara’s strange vessel and he somehow obtained some useful data on what this unknown group is after.

However, just when he was about to further his search, someone attacks them and the panel switches to the Hidden Leaf Village.

A new group threatens to disrupt the peace that Naruto, Sasuke, and the rest of the veteran ninjas worked hard on for several years. The urgency of the matter has forced Naruto to use the ninja tool that Boruto used to cheat in the past Chuunin exams.

To make sure that the research on the ninja tool goes well, Naruto assigns Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki on a C-grade mission to accompany Katasuke along with the Hidden Leaf Village’s new technology to Ryuutan City. Flustered at how his father suddenly needed to use devices that cheated one’s skills, Boruto storms out after insisting that a true ninja does not need a tool to show their powers that were earned through hard work.

An old friend from the Mist

Boruto eventually takes on the mission after being convinced by Mitsuki, and on the train ride to Ryuutan City, the Hidden Leaf Village residents run into an old character from the original “Naruto” series. Ao, who is from Hidden Mist Village, used to be part of the Anbu of Kirigakure’s Hunter-nin Corps.

Ao fought two great ninja wars, gaining his right eye’s Byakugan as spoils from the war in the Third Great Ninja War. In the Fourth Great Ninja War, he was one of the trusted allies assigned at the headquarters to maximize his skills as a sensory ninja.

Ao fought gallantly beside the former Mizukage, Mei Terumi, and the current one, Chojuro. However, it seems like tough times have landed on Ao because, after his brief chat with Boruto and the others, Ao turns out to be a comrade of Kashin Koji, a masked Inner member of Kara.

“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” chapter 17 revealed that Ao now works with the Kara as an Outer. In the Post-Mujina Bandits Arc, Kashin stealthily approached Ao in the train and informed him of a new task.

Ao has been ordered to deal with the vessel that was lost and intercept a couple of Hidden Leaf Village ninjas who were on the site. To make sure that all goes well for Ao, who has lost most of his limbs from the previous war, Kashin left him a crate containing intel and all the weapons he needed for the mission.
