The story of 'Overlord'

The story is set in the future in a world inside a Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, (DMMORPG).

This was a virtual reality game called "Yggdrasil" which ran for 12-years and is facing a server shut down. The story revolves around a player who stayed in the game when it was about to be shut down. The game held sentimental value to him because he built it with his friends over the years and even managed to become one of the strongest guilds. However, he realized that after the servers were down, he was still in the game when the NPCs started talking to him. Now being the only person left, he tries to find other players. They traveled around using their guild's name, Ainz Ooal Gown. The first season of the anime series left watchers hanging with so many questions that were left unanswered. Recent news from Anime News Network confirmed that the second season will air in January 2018.

How did the first season end?

The first season ended in the resolution of the battle between Ainz and Shalltear Bloodfallen. However, his victory was not the resolution to the story at all. It appears that Shalltear was mind controlled and was sent to fight Ainz. All they know about their enemy is that they manipulate characters from the shadows. All they know is that the group "The Slane Theocracy" was behind that attack.
