The crisis first arose when water was directed from the Flint River and spread Legionnaire's disease. Mars stated that the people of American should band together and ensure that something like this never happens again.
The flint water crisis first began three years ago in 2014 and lead to 12 deaths over the years
According to the Guardian, the Flint Water crisis began in 2014 when the city's water supply was switched from the Detroit River to the Flint River.
The switch was part of a cost saving initiative and no one expected what would happen next. The residents soon found that the water, which was being directed to their homes, was discolored and contained high levels of lead, disinfectant, and bacteria.
There was an outbreak of a disease known as Legionnaires’ disease from the tainted water, which affected over 100 people and killed 12 others. Legionnaires’ disease is a severe form of pneumonia and is usually caused by an infection and while there is an antibiotic that can be used to treat the disease some individuals still experience symptoms for the rest of their lives.
The attorney general Bill Schuette has come forward and stated that in June of this year five state officials were charged with involuntary manslaughter.
He claimed that the decisions made lead to the death of 12 people and that the officials should have ensured that the water from the Flint River should have been tested before the switch was made.

According to A.V Club, Bruno Mars made an announcement during his concert in Michigan and stated that he will be donating $1 million that he has earned from his world tour, the 24K Magic World Tour, to the cause.
He took a moment to thank his fans from Michigan for joining him in the cause.
He stated that it is important for people to remember what has happened because of the Flint water crisis and that the money will go towards helping those who have ongoing problems because of the contaminated water. He stated that as people and as Americans that they need to stand together and ensure that, something like this never happens to another community.
