It has just been revealed that the creator of the original manga series of Attack On Titan,” which is also referred to as Shingeki No Kyojin,” affirmed that the story has gained a new protagonist. Joining Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlelt in the roster of main characters is Reiner Braun.

Reiner steps up as new protagonist

According to a report from Comicbook, the creator of the manga and anime series, Hajime Isayama sat down for an interview with Illustration Magazine. During that interview, Isayama pointed out that Reiner is now considered the other protagonist of the series.

For fans who have been religiously following the manga series, this news will not come as a surprise because of the recent development of the story.

However, Reiner becoming another one of the protagonists most likely had also to do with the fact that he’s one of the most popular characters and that he is Isayama’s current favorite character.

Isayama explained that his favorite character from the series tends to change a lot but as of the moment, he has grown fond of the Marleyan spy, Reiner. The creator confessed that he wants to draw more of Reiner as the main story progresses.

Manga's current focus is Marley

Isayama’s favoritism is quite noticeable in the recent chapters of the manga version of “Attack on Titan.” The last few chapters have focused on the Marley Empire and how they're doing years later after the devastating battle in Paradis Island against the Survey Corps.

The Marley arc of the manga follows Reiner and other young Eldian soldiers who are candidates to inherit the power of the Armored Titan.

Reiner, who has clearly aged, currently possessed the powers of the Armored Titan but because of the shortened life span imposed by the power, Reiner is approaching his limit.

The new chapters open up about Reiner’s story as well as Annie’s and Bertholt’s. The three started off young in their mission to infiltrate Paradis Island and the experience has evidently changed Reiner in some way. Despite being a Marley soldier, Reiner is somewhat showing signs of rebellion as he tries to save his cousin from being selected as the next titan shifter.

Plot of 'Attack on Titan' season 3

The second season of the anime adaptation series of “Attack on Titan” recently ended with Mikasa’s confession and Eren being revealed as the person who possessed the original Titan's power. However, the conclusion of the story is far from over

“Attack on Titan” season 3 has already been confirmed and it is scheduled to air sometime in 2018. Based on the manga, the anime will delve into the truth behind the royal family and a huge battle between the titans that will leave the celebrated Survey Corps extremely short-handed.
