The paradox of Netflix: scrolling through the list of series and movies can feel both limited and irritating. The streaming giant updates its list of titles every month, so if you are looking for some exciting films this month, you may watch “Kung Fury,” “The Place Beyond the Pines,” “A Teacher,” “Kubo and the Two Strings,” and “The Prestige.”

It would not be wrong to say that there’s a whole world of filmmaking out there that may be harder to access, but the films below are entertaining and wonderfully diverse.

‘The Prestige’

Released in 2006, “The Prestige” is a British-American thriller directed and written by Christopher Nolan, based on a novel of the same name by Christopher Priest.

The film follows two magicians, Robert Angier and Alfred Borden, who are obsessed with creating the best stage illusion. “The Prestige” features Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, David Bowie, Michael Caine, Rebecca Hall, Andy Serkis, Scarlett Johansson, and Piper Perabo in the leads.

‘A Teacher’

A Teacher” is a 2013 film about a high school student who develops a sexual relationship with his teacher, and his desire to have sex turns from infatuation to obsession. Directed by Hannah Fidell, the film premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Lindsay Burdge, Will Brittain, Jennifer Prediger, Jonny Mars, Matthew Genitempo, Cody Haltom, and Lanie Overton play the leading characters.

‘Kubo and the Two Strings’

Kubo and the Two Strings” is currently streaming on Netflix, so it’s an opportunity for you to enjoy an action-adventure film with your whole family. Released in 2016, “Kubo and the Two Strings” was directed by Travis Knight and written by Marc Haimes. The film features the voices of Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Matthew McConaoughey, Geoge Takei, Ralph Fiennes and Art Parkinson.

The film revolves around Kubo, who wields a mysterious shamisen and whose eye was stolen. It went on to gross over $11 million in its opening weekend, finishing fourth at the box office in 2016.

‘Kung Fury’

Released in 2015, “Kung Fury” is an action comedy film directed and written by David Sandberg. It pays homage to the martial arts and action movies, and the title roles feature David Sandberg, Jorma Taccone, Steven Chew, Leopold Nilsson, Andreas Cahling and Erik Hornqvist.

“Kung Fury” was crowdfunded through Kickstarter in December 2013 with pledges reaching $630,000.

‘The Place Beyond the Pines’

“The Place Beyond the Pines” is a 2012 crime movie directed and written by Derek Cianfrance and starring Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, Bradley Cooper, Emory Cohen, Dane DeHaan, Ben Mendelsohn, Bruce Greenwood, Rose Byrne, and Mahershala Ali. “The Place Beyond the Pines” was released in the United States on March 29, 2013, and it grossed over $68 million in theaters.
