Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland surprised all fans when “Rick and Morty” season 3 premiered unannounced on April 1. Most fans initially thought that it was only part of an April Fool’s joke but it turned out to be real. Episode 1 titled “The Rickshank Redemption” showcased the Smith family’s return to Earth following their escape from the planet in an attempt to get away from the alien government.
The creators recently shared some clues on what to expect in the upcoming episodes of the third installment, which appear to be more exciting. They also revealed the celebrities that will guest star this season.
Celebrity cameos
Harmon and Roiland recently told IndieWire that there will be more celebrities coming to “Rick and Morty” Season 3. This includes Susan Sarandon, Christian Slater, Danny Trejo, Thomas Middlemarch, Peter Serafinowicz, Gillian Jacobs and Joel McHale. Keith David is also confirmed to make a comeback to voice the President of the United States, who originally appeared in the episode “Get Schwifty” in season 2.
It can be recalled when Alfred Molina, Werner Herzog, Keegan-Michael Key, Christina Hendricks, John Oliver, Stephen Colbert and Jermaine Clement previously guest starred in the series.
More exciting things to happen this season
The creators also told Time that the Earth will be back to normal in “Rick and Morty” Season 3 after Rick managed to annihilate the galactic economy during the first episode of the third season. "I don't think it's a spoiler to say that Earth gets back to business as usual pretty quickly without looking back,” Harmon said. “The answer is, there is life out there. It was here once, then it left, and Earth is Earth again. It doesn't turn into The Jetsons." Additionally, this season’s plot will also focus more on Beth, whose marriage to Jerry has become tumultuous.
The creator said that this will be the best time to build up her character.
While fans might wonder if Jerry would still be a huge part of “Rick and Morty” Season 3, the creators said that they are not letting his character go that easy. Harmon went on to say that the adventures of the duo will get darker this season, although it won’t depart the show’s traditional tone. Adult Swim in June released the first trailer that features “Game of Thrones” and “Mad Max” parodies for the show. This is just another explosive that the creators have set for the series.
However, there is only one not-too-good news that the creators brought in for fans. The show was originally planned to have 14 episodes but Harmon said that there will be fewer episodes this season. Sorry, folks!
