The last year and in a half has been debilitating for fans who got into K-pop during its second generation after Hallyu, or the Korean Wave, initiated. It is because certain K-pop acts whom debuted during that time are now disbanding. Back in 2016, fans' hearts broke when girl groups Kara, 4minute, and 2NE1 disbanded. Earlier this year, the heartbreak would continue with Wonder Girls disbanding too.

Now the K-pop community is in shock yet again as news of another veteran K-pop act disbanding is made known. SISTAR will officially disband this year but they will be able to say goodbye to fans through one final comeback.

Starship Entertainment confirms Sistar's disbandment after 7 years.

In an announcement uploaded on their official Twitter account, Starship Entertainment -- the entertainment agency and label Sistar was created under -- confirmed that the K-pop girl group will be disbanding after seven years. According to them, Sistar will officially end their promotions as a group. Each of the members -- Hyorin, Bora, Soyou, and Dasom -- wrote heartfelt letters for fans to read. They talked about the accomplishments and struggles they went through since they officially debuted back on June 3, 2010.

Thankfully, Sistar will also be able to say goodbye to fans, especially their official fan club known as Star1, through one final K-pop comeback too. They recently released a teaser video giving hints on said upcoming comeback. The title of their swan song is "Lonely" and seems to have a slow acoustic backing. The teaser also hints that the official music video takes place on the beach.

What will them members of Sistar do after they disband?

Sistar may be disbanding but as of right now, we only know of the members not wanting to continue as a girl group. That means it is possible Hyorin, Bora, Soyou, and Dasom will re-sign with Starship Entertainment but as individual artists.

All the members have experience singing solo songs, but Hyorin and Soyou are pursuing a solo career in music more so than the other two members.

Hyorin already released her debut solo album "Love & Hate" back in 2013 while Soyou is known for collaborating in duets. Her last collaboration was "Its Raining" alongside Baekhyun of EXO.

As for Bora and Dasom, both are pursuing acting careers. Bora had supporting roles in "Doctor Stranger" and "High-End Crush" while taking on the lead role in "Flatterer." Dasom had a supporting role in "Shut Up Family" and her first lead role in "Melody of Love," but it is her roles in "The Eccentric Daughter-In-Law" and "Unni is Alive" where she really stands out.

When will Sistar release their final K-pop comeback before disbanding?

Sistar will release their final K-pop comeback "Lonely" in about one week on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 8 p.m. KST. Given the fact this is not only their last comeback but a single album, promotions leading up to its release will most likely be simple.
