"13 Reasons Why", the Netflix adaptation of the best-selling novel by Jay Asher, has been renewed for the second season. The series will have thirteen new episodes, and it is expected to premiere on 2018. Season 2 will center on the aftermath of the death of Hannah Baker, and it will also focus on the lives of the characters as they recover from their complicated journey on the first season.

Thirteen new episodes for season 2

Brian Yorkey takes over the reign and will serve as the showrunner for the follow-up season of the series. It is expected to debut its first episode on 2018.

Despite several controversies and debates over the series, it still becomes the most talked about and most tweeted TV show on Netflix for 2017. On the other, critics also showed their praise to the series. Apparently, they called it, "a suspenseful tale that will keep most viewers engaged until the final scene fades out."

In the first season, the story centers on a teenager named Clay Jensen as he returns home from school and finds a mysterious box with his name written on it. Inside the box are cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker who tragically has committed suicide two weeks earlier. On the tapes, Baker explains the thirteen reasons she has why she decided to end her life.

The series which features suicide, teen bullying, rape and drunk driving in graphical details has been the subject of controversies for the past weeks.

Further, it also draws discussion among mental and health experts, school officials and parents. In response, Netflix placed its episode contents with warnings.

Selena Gomez shares footage of '13 Reasons Why' season 2

One of the executive producers, Selena Gomez, has shared some teaser of the upcoming season for "13 Reasons Why." The clip came days after the renewal of the most controversial yet popular TV series of Netflix has been confirmed.

Further, as the series continues, Yorkey told LA Times that the story of Hannah Baker isn't yet over. Apparently, season 2 will focus on its unfinished business. Baker's parents still need to know the complete story while at the same time, there is a rapist who has not been brought to justice yet.

The second season will also feature on the recovery of a certain character who is one of the survivors from a rape incident. The showrunner aims to bring the series more satisfying and hence, they are going to provide answers to questions left unanswered from season 1.
