Because FOX owns the rights to the X-Men and the mutants in the Marvel Comics Universe, Marvel has pumped up their group of Inhumans. Instead of just being the Royal Family and their people in Attilan, the Marvel television universe has made Inhumans their version of mutants. Now, a Marvel "Inhumans" television show is coming and ABC has cast the characters that will appear.
The Inhumans on 'S.H.I.E.L.D.'
The Inhumans were introduced on the Marvel ABC television series "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." as a type of human with special powers - exactly like mutants in the X-Men world. The main character on the show ended up getting powers and a whole slew of superpowered characters popped up as Inhumans type superheroes and villains. However, there was a big difference between the Inhumans on "S.H.I.E.L.D." and The Inhumans from Marvel Comics. That difference is shown when looking at the new upcoming "Inhumans" television show.
'The Inhumans' television series
Fans of Marvel Comics knows that The Inhumans don't really apply to the Marvel Universe in the same way as mutants.
Created thanks to Kree experimentation, The Inhumans in the comics are a Royal Family and seem much more aligned with "Game of Thrones" than "The X-Men." These are the characters appearing in the eight-episode ABC TV show. Black Bolt is the King and leader and his family includes Medusa, Crystal, Gorgon, Lockjaw, and more. This is what the television show will focus on, replacing what was supposed to be one of the Marvel movies.
Casting 'The Inhumans'
The most recent news includes the casting of The Inhumans for the upcoming series. The king Black Bolt will be played by Anson Mount ("Hell on Wheels"). His queen Medusa will be played by Serinda Swan ("Graceland"). Black Bolt's brother Maximus is Iwan Rheon ("Game of Thrones").
Other actors include Ken Leung as Karnak, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Mike Moh as Triton, Sonya Balmores as Auran, and CGI will likely produce the 2,000-pound dog that can teleport Lockjaw. The first two episodes will screen in theaters on IMAX screens and the series will air on ABC.
