Actress Mary Tyler Moore has died and Twitter is mourning the passing of the popular actress known for her roles in the popular TV sitcoms "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," as well as dozens of other TV shows and movies.

Moore, 80, was surrounded by friends and family, including her husband, Dr. Robert Levine, when she passed away on Wednesday.

Her family issued a statement to the press that said, in part, that Mary would be "remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile."

It didn't take long for the news to spread that the world lost yet another amazing celebrity. The outpouring of condolences and memories made it clear that Moore was one of our most beloved actresses and she will be missed.

Love and marriage

CNN reports that Mary was with her husband of 33 years, Dr. Robert Levine, was by her side when she died on Wednesday. The couple married in New York City on November 23, 1983 months after meeting when Levine made a house call to treat her sick mother.

It was Mary Tyler Moore's third married but one that spanned three decades.

Moore married Richard Carleton Meeker in 1955 at the age of 18 and the couple had one son, Richard Jr, who died in 1980 from an accidental gunshot wound. Mary and Richard divorced in 1961 and she went on to marry TV executive Grant Tinker in 1962. They divorced in 1981 and she married Dr. Levine two years later.

More than just an actress

Although Moore was known for her TV and movie roles, she was also very active with various charities including animal right and diabetes. Born in Brooklyn New York on December 29, 1936, the popular actress was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" which aired from 1970-1977.

She also battled alcoholism, something that was the topic of two of her memoirs — "After All" (1995) and "Growing Up Again: Life, Loves, and Oh Yeah, Diabetes" (2009) — and in 2011, she underwent surgery for a benign brain tumor.
