A newly released trailer for the second season of "Underground" is creating buzz among fans of the WGN America period drama series that made its debut last March. The first sneak peek at the upcoming season (video below) comes with some good news — the network has set the premiere date for Season 2, and it's just three months away.

Three months sure sounds like a long time to wait if you enjoyed the first season of "Underground," a series that follows a group of slaves known as the Macon 7 who plan their escape from a plantation in Antebellum, Georgia.

The series returns with the country on the brink of the Civil War and features the aftermath of the Macon 7's escape attempt. According to TV Line, Season 2 will premiere on March 8, 2017, at 10 p.m. ET on WGN America, so let the countdown begin.

'Underground' Season 2 trailer

At the end of the Season 1 finale, fans got a glimpse of the conductor of the Underground Railroad, Harriet Tubman played by "Under the Dome's" Aisha Hinds.

The first trailer for the upcoming 10-episode season of "Underground" features Tubman (Hinds) and gives viewers a glimpse of what's to come.

Moviefone states that John Legend, the series' executive producer, will be a guest star during Season 2, playing the role of abolitionist Frederick Douglas. In addition to Aisha Hinds (Harriet Tubman), Sadie Stratton will join the cast as slave catcher Patty Cannon.

Returning Cast

There is a long list of returning cast members for "Underground" Season 2 including Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Rosalee), Aldis Hodge (Noah), Amirah Vann (Ernestine), Christopher Meloni (August), Alano Miller (Cato), and Jessica de Gouw (Elizabeth).

Fans of the series will also see Marc Blucas return to his guest-starring role as John Hawkes as well as Jesse Luken (Smoke), Michael Trotter (Biographer), and Jasika Nicole (Georgia).
