The shocking revelation that the former singer of Wham and 80s pop icon George Michael passed away on Christmas stunned the world and his celebrity friends who worked with him like Elton John are still in a state of grief and disbelief.

His longtime friend Elton John, who worked together with him on the song, "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" was heartbroken by the news of his passing and led an outpouring tribute on social media. The two were pictured together on Instagram and various social networks.

"We lost a generous soul, a brilliant artist and friend, RIP."

Fans around the world were also shocked by the news and expressed their condolences all over the social networks. Since his recent passing, the music platform, Spotify reported that the star's music was getting massive plays. The most popular tunes that got the most plays were, "Last Christmas" "Careless Whisper," "Faith," "Freedom 90" and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go."

george michael died in his sleep from heart failure.

He also had a history of weight issues before his death. His partner, celebrity hairstylist Fadi Fawaz found him dead in his bed. Fans left flowers outside his home to pay tribute to the 80's icon. He was working on a movie about his life which will be presented on the cable channel, Showtime in March. He was a regular attendee of Christmas mass but did not show up on Sunday.

Celebrities such as Madonna pictured on Instagram and Facebook and a host of others expressed their condolences to the late singer and said he will be sorely missed.

Michael was a part of "We are the World" project with Quincy Jones and other musicians back in 1985 to raise money with the USA For Africa supergroup. His music and the "We Are The World" single are available on ITunes, Spotify and online retailers.
