Happy 27th birthday, Taylor Swift! At least that’s what her “squad”— her group of besties -- wished for her. However, some people were not as thrilled about Swift's milestone as others. Musician John Mayer, who Taylor Swift revealed she had a fling with through music, expressed a different sentiment.

John's song

Swift, known for not keeping quiet about her love life and her dozen or so famous suitors, wrote a song called “Dear John,” presumably after Mayer broke her heart. “Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone/Don't you think I was too young to be messed with?" Swift belted on her album "Speak Now." No one knows the true details of what went down between the two, but the song only added to the speculation.

John on the defense

Predictably, Mayer was none too happy about the song and expressed his feelings to Rolling Stone. "It made me feel terrible," Mayer reveaed. "Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do."

He continued, "I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call," he says. "I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?"

John's retaliation

There are hints that Mayer never really let it go, expressed through a tweet seemingly aimed at Swift.

“Tuesday, December 13 may be the lamest day of the year, conceptually," he said on Twitter. Many took this as a direct aim at Swift, as December 13th is well-known to be Swift's birthday!

Even more suspiciously, he quickly deleted the tweet. Luckily, the internet was there to screencap the tweet in all its glory.

John quickly tried to backtrack: "NOPE. No. Nuh-uh," he tweeted. "People I am 39. I am deleting those tweets. Come right at me for doing so. Absolutely no shade."

Many Swift fans are still skeptical that the social media message wasn't aimed at her. Although this couple's relationship is in the past, they clearly still have some bad blood between them!
