Legends of tomorrow”s Rip Hunter is back in action. Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) has carried the captain’s mantle for nearly half a season, but the Waverider’s resident Time Master will rejoin the fray by episode 11. In an hour defined by betrayal, will Arthur Darvill’s character be the man we remember?

Darvill returns to ‘Legends’ set

For the Legends, the search for Captain Hunter isn’t so much a rescue mission as it is a waiting game. Rip and his six-shooter seemingly vanished without a trace, leaving his team without so much as a breadcrumb to follow.

His plight was subsequently relegated to the backburner as Citizen Steel (Nick Zano), Vixen (Maisie Richardson Sellers), and the Legion of Doom moved to the fore, but recent photos have dropped the hero into the midst of the American Revolution.

Titled “Turncoat,” the episode will feature the native Brit as a Red Coat leader. Images from YVR Shoots show Rip donning a tri-corner hat while leading a phalanx of lobsterbacks through an encampment. A gallows stands ominously on the outskirts.

“He does come back, just not necessarily the Rip that we remember,” Richardson-Sellers told Cinema Blend.

“That's sort of what is a big part of the second half of the season.”

According to Instagram snaps from the cast, it looks like the rest of the Legends will take up arms against the British empire. Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave) is donning the blue of the Continental Army and Sara is keeping warm in a cloak while several of the King’s soldiers man the road ahead.

Although filming for “Turncoat” marks the first time bystanders have seen Darvill back at work, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is the first episode he has shot since the premiere.

After all, viewers will learn Rip’s fate before his compatriots.

"You will find out [what happened to Rip] before the Legends do,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly.

With the midseason finale just days away, perhaps the powers that be will drop a little Hunter-centric teaser ahead of the hiatus.

What’s next on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’?

Titled “The Chicago Way,” episode 9 will travel to Prohibition-era Illinois.

Eliot Ness, Al Capone, and the Untouchables take pride of place in the Windy City, but the Legends will have their own villain to worry about. The Legion of Doom has arrived.

“The Legends quickly realize that they have been set up by Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher), Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and the newest member of the Legion of Doom, Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman),” The CW teased. “Stein (Victor Garber) is taken captive and Sara must make the tough choice of either stopping the Legion of Doom or saving Stein. Meanwhile, Rory gets an unexpected visitor and is not sure how to handle it.”

“Legends of Tomorrow” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m.

ET on The CW.
