Are you listening carefully? What you are about to hear is not an illusion, a scam, or a parlor trick. That should be left to the magicians, the con artists, or in this case, the psychics. Jeffrey Donovan, who played our favorite burned spy in the seven seasons of “Burn Notice” is back once again with his salesman-like smirk and charm in Hulu’s new drama "Shut Eye." Donovan not pull off?

A day in the life of a psychic

This new original series, that was just released today, follows the story of Charlie Haverford (Jeffrey Donovan) a former inventor of magic tricks turned-psychic scammer who runs a small chain of fortune-telling storefronts controlled by a family of gypsies, (a.k.a. mafia types), in the greater part of Los Angeles. Charlie receives a blow to the head from a client's angry boyfriend and immediately after is hypnotized by a determined hustler (Emmanuelle Chriqui) who is trying to join the family of con artists. This does a number on him, causing him to have strange visions and premonitions, realizing something other than just head trauma has occurred.

Who you can expect to see?

The show stars KaDee Strickland as Charlie's wife, Linda, who is tired of their mediocre life and has higher aspirations for their financial future. She wants Charlie to get them out from under the "family" so they can run their own scams and keep their earnings. Isabella Rossellini co-stars as Rita, the devious and sadistic leader of the clan, a role she plays superbly.

Will "Shut Eye" be a success? Will Jeffrey Donovan win an Emmy? We are not the psychics here, but after laying the tarot cards out on the table, it seems, with such a well-rounded cast and an intriguing storyline, Hulu might have played their hand right.
