With three episodes left in season 3, “Girl Meets World” is trapped in renewal limbo. The future of Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard), Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter), and their teenage shenanigans is in jeopardy. Disney Channel has yet to drop the hammer on the “Boy Meets World” spin-off, and the creative minds behind “Girl Meets World” want fans to know there is still hope for their favorite freshmen.

Can ‘GMW’ snag season 4?

In light of various cancellation rumors, the ‘GMW’ scribes took to Twitter on Thursday in an effort to clear the air.

“There is no official word as yet. Disney decision on season 4 coming soon,” the writers assured fans. “Officially, season 3 ends with 3 wonderful episodes in January.”

The tweet came in light of Rider Strong’s (Shawn) turn on the “Literary Disco” podcast, during which he implied that the series had come to its inevitable conclusion.

“We finished the third season of "GMW" — my brother and I were directing a lot of episodes and I acted in a couple — and the show ended,” Strong said.

It’s hardly unusual for networks to wait until finale ratings are in before determining a series’ future. For the cast and fans of the Disney comedy, this has become an agonizing wait. Filming for season 3 ended in late summer, leaving the fandom without a conclusive update for the last several months.
