One of the most influential political talk shows in recent years has been "Real Time with Bill Maher," seen only on HBO. After taking a break following the election of Donald Trump, host Bill Maher is making his return for a 15th season.

Real Time on Trump

Starting in 2003, liberal comedian Bill Maher has hosted "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO. The show took shape following the cancellation of Maher's prior show, "Political Incorrect," which aired on network television. While an admitted liberal, Maher has made it a point not to hold back his criticism of many Democrats, including President Obama and some of the choices that have been made over the last eight years.

Maher ended season 14 shortly after the 2016 election concluded, but as seen on his offical Twitter account on December 7, "Real Time" is set to return and at the perfect time.

"It was a long, hard fought election season," a narrow says as the viewer watches various news clips form in a montage. "And as the Inauguration approaches, the eyes of the nation will turn to a man who has been called controversial, unapologetic, combative, fearless," the narrator continues.

The video concludes with Bill Maher reading a newspaper, while sending a message to Donald Trump following his election win. "The results may be in, but the last word is mine!" Maher says. In another shot at the president elect, the back of the newspaper that Maher was reading shows a picture of host himself, with the slogan "Make American Sane Again" written across his face.

The liberal comedian has been a staunch critic of the former host of "The Apprentice" for the entire campaign cycle, warning voters just days before the election not allow Trump to make it to the White House. Maher's warning came as the talk show host took a slight departure from his more comedic style, to address the audience in a serious tone.

Ironic timing

"Real Time with Bill Maher" returns for the show's 15th season and will do so on January 20.

The date is ironic because, not only is it on Inauguration Day where Donald Trump will be sworn into office, it's also Maher's 61st birthday.
