AR Rehman is a music director from Bollywood. He won a double Oscar for the film "Slumdog Millionaire," directed by Danny Boyle. Rehman won a double Oscar for Best original score and song "Jai Ho." This year his name is featured on a list of 91 songs in the original song category. Rehman has composed the music for the Brazilian film "Pele: Birth of a Legend." The song titled "Ginga" has found a place on the long list of proposed nominations. Rehman is not new to nominations after winning the awards for " Slumdog Millionaire." He was also in contention for an award in 2014 for his score in the films "Million Dollar Arm" and "The Hundred Foot Journey," as well as the Indian language film "Kochadaiiyaan."

Rehman success of a convert

Rehman burst on the scene in 2008 for his score and original song for "Slumdog Millionaire." Rehman is now one of the top music directors in the world, and in 2011 he was in contention for an award for his music, as well as the song for "127 Hours." Rehman is a big name in the music field now.

Rehman is a Tamil and was born in Chennai as a Hindu. He was given the name Ashok Kumar but later converted to Islam. Rehman's mother was a Muslim. Rehman has composed the music for the Brazilian film on the legendary football star Pele. The film is an account of the early life of Pele and his rise from humble beginnings to become one of the greats in the game. Rehman was chosen to compose the score for the film by directors Jeff Zimbalist and Micheal Zimbalist.


The Oscars are the last word in the field of motion pictures and have a niche for them all over the world.

The final nominations will be announced on the 24th of January, well ahead of the presentation ceremony on the 26th of February. These awards will be for the year 2016.

Rehman who is a Muslim convert once said that his success in the music and film world in both Bollywood and the world was due to his conversion to Islam. People may choose to believe his statement or not. However, Rehman is now a big name in the motion picture industry in India and Hollywood.
