People magazine's title of "Sexiest Man Alive" is not only a spotlight for one of the many attractive faces of Hollywood, but a who's who of the year's most sought after male actors. Being awarded said title doesn't just mean an adoring group of female fans, it is a sign that you've officially made it. And who has made it this year? Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

On being awarded "Sexiest Man Alive"

“I said, ‘That’s awesome.’ And then I thought, ‘Wow, we’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle.’ I’m not quite too sure where we go from here.

I’ve done it all, this is it,” said Johnson in his cover story interview with People.

The celeb said it took a long time for him to feel comfortable in his skin, but that the big changes he made in his career have lent him a confidence. Johnson attributes his sense of humor and his grooming habits to the millions of fans who swoon over the 44-year-old actor. He said it "starts with the skin" and admitted to exfoliating regularly.

But it's no wonder Johnson has such a strong following. Frequently appearing in family-friendly comedies, he represents the ultimate figure of the funny, caring, muscular 'hot dad' of many women's fantasies.

Latest projects

This past year has seen Johnson in the comedy "Central Intelligence" with Kevin Hart (a duo we will be seeing more of in the remake of "Jumanji" set to release in 2017), and the upcoming release of Disney's "Moana" (in theatres November 23rd).

With this year's success on top of 2015 ("Furious 7" and "San Andreas"), Johnson shouldn't be surprised if more work comes his way.

And of course, fans should keep their eye out for the multiple 2017 releases Johnson is set to star in, including "Fast 8," starring Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, and Helen Mirren, and "Baywatch," alongside Zac Efron.

Past sexy men

Past actors awarded People's most famous title include Mel Gibson, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Ryan Reynolds, and Chris Hemsworth.

The title has frequently marked a high point within these actors' careers, some even being awarded the title twice.

So, how do these men get picked? People magazine conducts extensive meetings throughout the year throwing out ideas of who this years "Sexiest Man Alive" should be, on top of focus groups and additional research to finally pick who gets the title, who gets in the top ten, and who gets an honorable mention.

Since the "Sexiest Man Alive" issue is one of the biggest for People every year, the decision is high-stakes as millions of dollars can be made off the issue.
