Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin are back on the set of "Outlander" to reprise their roles as Brianna Randall and Roger Wakefield. The actors were spotted in Glasgow’s west end, last Thursday, filming on a location that is supposed to play Boston in the third series of the hit show. Back in September, star Caitriona Balfe was seen filming on the same location as a pregnant Claire after being forced to leave her 18th Century love Jamie Fraser, and return to her life with first husband Frank Randall.

It seems the production of the much anticipated new season is going as well as it’s possible, except that Brianna and Roger were not supposed to travel to Boston until season 4.

‘Outlander’ might tell a different story for Roger and Brianna

Richard Rankin, who debuted on the season 2 finale that aired last July, has teased in the book “The Making of Outlander” (Tara Bennett) that the relationship between his character and Brianna won’t be following the exact events described in the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon. It’s not clear what showrunner Ronald D. Moore has in mind for the characters, however some changes apparently are taking place in the upcoming season.

Although they become major characters through the series, Brianna and Roger’s contribution in "Voyager" is quite small, yet important. They help Claire to track Jamie in the 18th Century, so the doctor can go through the stones of Craigh na Dun one more time to find her beloved Highlander warrior, and both remain in Scotland until the time traveler is gone.

After that, the new couple appears again in "Drums of Autumn," which will be adapted in season 4, sharing scenes in Boston and a romantic Christmas in Inverness, before their lives take an unexpected turn that will change their future forever.

The presence of the actors at said filming location suggests they will be together in Boston sooner than expected, and the deviation from the books might have consequences in further seasons.

‘Outlander’ adds new actors to the cast

When season 3 airs next year, the viewers will meet new faces as some of the recurring characters will no longer be there due to the tragic Battle of Culloden. David Berry, César Domboy, Wil Johnson, John Bell, Lauren Lyle, Hannah James, and Tanya Reynolds have been cast to play key roles in the third series. Laura Donnelly, Steven Cree and Nell Hudson are set to return.
