All those hours spent shooting zombies in the gun range will soon pay off for “NCIS: LA”’s Eric Beale. The techie is always itching to trade his seat in ops for a place in the field, and season 8 will give him that chance.

Is Eric ready for the field?

Even as Nell (Renne Felice Smith) is re-evaluating her desire to join Sam (LL Cool J), Callen (Chris O’Donnell), Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), and Kensi (Daniela Ruah) out on the streets, Mr. Beale (Barrett Foa) is holding fast to hero daydreams (never mind the fact that he’s just as responsible for the OSPs collars as anyone with boots on the ground).

As midseason approaches, Eric will finally get his chance.

“We are about to shoot a great episode where Eric (the resident computer geek) gets sent into the field - gun and all - he's such a goofball and gets so nervous which is really fun to play against legends like LL Cool J and Linda Hunt,” Foa told Broadway World in early October.

In other words, look for Eric to jump into action sometime during “Glasnost” (Nov. 20), “Sirens,” or the annual Christmas episode, now titled “Tidings We Bring.” Although it certainly wouldn’t be the first time the tech operator has accompanied Callen and co. into the field, but it would be one od his few missions with a sidearm at hand. We certainly hope he never has to use it.

Eric doesn’t have a killer instinct, and it would break out hearts to see him develop one.

What’s next for ‘NCIS: LA’?

In the meantime, Hetty’s (Linda Hunt) team has other cases to solve. This Sunday, Sam and Callen will find themselves protecting a young asthmatic boy in “Parallel Resistors.”

“After a graduate student developing an electromagnetic weapon for the Navy is attacked, the NCIS team discovers a connection to international warfare,” CBS teased.

“Also, Kensi continues grueling physical therapy for her spinal injury.”
