"The young and the restless" fans were sure they'd never see Judith Chapman (Gloria Bardwell) again, and were forced to make peace with it. After two long years, they gave up hope that the feisty spitball would ever return to Genoa City again. For once, the showrunners listened to the viewers and created a storyline to bring Gloria back to Genoa City, at least for Christmas.

Gloria returns with a plan

Gloria has missed her sons, Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) and Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart).

She plans to catch up with them and try to rebuild her relationship with them. Judith explained to Soap Opera Digest that when she was called by "The Young and the Restless" casting director they didn't tell her much about her storyline. All she knew was that they wanted Gloria back and she would tape scenes with Kevin and Michael, mainly.

Judith dived into the role of Gloria

Chapman explained that at first, she was scared that she might need a few days to get her feet wet and get into the groove again.

As it turns out, she didn't need any time. The CBS studio immediately felt like home, and she reported that the whole cast was "very welcoming" to her.

Welcome home, Gloria

It was something that she never expected to see, at least not this soon. She had made peace with the fact that "Y&R" seemed to "cut" Gloria out of the storylines.

Chapman was vocal about the show not asking her back last year when she called for the former showrunner, Jill Farren Phelps to be fired. Eventually, Phelps was let go and replaced by Mal Young. He wants to bring "the classic show" back to the spotlight, and that apparently includes Gloria Bardwell.

Even though Judith said she was "okay" with not coming back to "Young and the Restless," she admitted she felt a level of sadness about it. She is thrilled to be back on the set, and cannot wait for her fans to see her juicy storyline.

"The Young and the Restless" airs Judith Chapman's episodes starting on December 21.

"Y&R" fans, are you glad Gloria will be back in Genoa City?
