Hawaii Five-0”’s maverick Navy SEAL and “MacGyver”’s thrifty soldier are primed for a team up. The worlds of Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Mac (Lucas Till) are inextricably entwined, all thanks to a scene that landed on the cutting room floor. Just because a plot point was scrapped once, however, doesn’t mean “Hawaii Five-0” and “MacGyver” showrunner Peter Lenkov is ready to abandon it completely.

Who knows ‘Hawaii Five-0’’s Steve McGarrett?

As luck would have it, CIA vet and current Phoenix Foundation agent Jack Dalton (George Eads) has ties to the leader of Oahu’s premiere task force.

“I took a shot out of the MacGyver pilot in a flashback to Jack in Afghanistan,” Lenkov recently informed TV Insider. “The shot was of the saddle of his gun. It said “Aloha” on the saddle, and the idea was that he knew McGarrett in the military. I still would like to take advantage of that.”

Just as Special Agent Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) of “NCIS: Los Angeles” found her way to paradise several years ago, Lenkov hopes to loop his current endeavor into the shared universe.

“Somehow we’ll do a cross-over and those two guys knew each other,” the writer teased.

“I’m hoping.”

From the sound of it, it looks like viewers will have to wait until “MacGyver”’s second season to see if Phoenix and Five-0’s miscibility is akin to oil and water, or vodka and Red Bull.

What’s next on ‘Hawaii Five-0’?

For the moment, McGarrett and co. have their own issues to deal with. Now in its seventh season, “Hawaii Five-0” is gearing up for a midseason cliffhanger.

We're building to a pretty big midseason finale cliffhanger in Episode 11,” Lenkov told TV Guide, promising a Chin-centric nail bitter.

“We've never really done that, by the way, sort of end on a cliffhanger midseason. So we're trying that this year.”

Ka Luhi (The Burden)” will precede the December finale and introduce viewers to Danny’s (Scott Caan) sister.

“Five-0 investigates the 10-year-old cold case of a missing teen when a boy suffering from PTSD undergoes hypnosis and realizes he may have witnessed her murder,” CBS teased. “Also, Danny's sister, Bridget (guest star Missy Peregrym), visits Oahu for a business conference, and he suspects that she may be getting too close to a co-worker.”
