In the "Game of Thrones" deleted scene from season 6 recently released by HBO we can see Olenna Tyrell (a.k.a. the Queen of Thorns) discussing with her son Mace Tyrell in King's Landing. The scene is from season 6's second episode and clearly explains Olenna's plan on rescuing Margaery and Loras from the sparrows.

'Game of Thrones': deleted scene from episode 6x02

Here's the clip with Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) and Mace Tyrell (Roger Ashton-Griffiths), set in the streets of King's Landing:

Olenna's plan and Mace's gullibility

We don't know why the scene was deleted but we can speculate, that the discussion between Olenna and Mace explains even too much of Olenna and Cersei's future "projects." The Queen of Thorns clearly states that she is going to sit in the Small Council, not as the Master of Coin (her son's role in the Small Council) but as the "Mistress of getting her grandchildren out of bloody prison."

At the beginning of the clip, The Queen of Thorns explains to Mace what he was really doing in Braavos: Cersei sent him there to "negotiate" with the Iron Bank, in Mace's opinion; she sent him there to get him "out of her way," in Olenna's opinion.

Olenna also remarks how dumb Mace was to be manipulated in that way, staying in Bravoos "eating, drinking, singing" while Loras and Margaery were being rounded up by Lannisters and sparrows. Mace tries to defend himself but Olenna stops her son by telling him: "Look me in the eyes and tell me there was no singing..."

The Queen of Thorns' plan

At the end of the deleted scene, Olenna states very clearly what her intention is: rescuing Loras and Margaery and leaving King's Landing so the sparrows and the Lannisters could rip each other apart. Sadly, we all know this plan is going to fail. In the most difficult situation Cersei will be able to gain total power on the capital "by violence," perpetrating the Sept of Baelor massacre.

As many fans know, "Game of Thrones" season 7 will air in Summer 2017 on HBO. According to some sources, it will probably air at the end of June 2017.
