NBC aired Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colors" last year. It was watched by almost 18.6 million viewers. The network is expecting to have more viewers for the upcoming two-hour sequel. Parton's autobiographical film continues in "Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love" about faith, love, and sacrifice. The 120-minute movie premieres on Wednesday, November 30 at 8 p.m.

When NBC requested the sequel, writer Pamela K. Long and director Stephen Herek jumped at the chance to continue the story in another chapter of Dolly Parton's life.

The new movie has some of the same characters as the first one. For instance, Alyvia Alyn Lind reclaims her role as 9-year-old Dolly, and vocalist Jennifer Nettles again plays the role of Dolly's mother. Ricky Schroder returns as Dolly's father.

The story is about an unexpected blizzard that threatens Dolly's family during the Christmas holidays. Parton’s father and his children make sacrifices to save enough money to buy his wife a wedding ring because she has never had one. A subplot involves a person coming into Dolly's life who sees that her talent as a singer should go far beyond her home in rural Tennessee.

Purpose of film

Both Dolly Parton and Jennifer Nettles said they wanted the new film to be as successful as the original film. More importantly, they want "Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love" to be a guide for helping families create their own memories. Dolly indicated that families have lost so much because of technology and new ways of doing things. She wants her story to show others that even though families make sacrifices, they can still experience love.

Jennifer agrees and says the film will remind families of their own stories and allow them to reconnect, especially around Christmas.

Because the sequel, like the original film, is based on Dolly's life, viewers will find out some things about her and her family they never knew before. It is quite interesting to see how the family worked together and made sacrifices to get money for a wedding ring for Dolly's mother.
