Derek Hough won't be on hand to go for his seventh Mirrorball Trophy when "Dancing With The Stars" season 24 premieres in March of 2017. According to a Nov. 29 TV Guide report, the talented 31-year old performer will forego another trip around the "DWTS" ballroom in favor of serving as a judge on the upcoming Jennifer Lopez reality show "World of Dance," which is set to hit NBC next year.

Derek Hough trading stars for amateurs

Hough will join dancer and R&B singer Ne-Yo and Lopez as judges for "World of Dance." The new reality competition will break talent into three age divisions, and an elimination-style format familiar to reality TV show fans will see acts sent packing until just one remains in each age bracket.

The three surviving acts will then compete for two top prizes: a million dollar paycheck, and the title of "Best in the World."

Lopez, 47, was thrilled the share the news with Twitter followers. The dancer, mega successful singer, and former "American Idol" judge tweeted "Exciting WORLD OF DANCE News!! Welcome @derekhough and @NeYoCompound to the team!" shortly after the announcement went public.

Derek Hough had not commented as of press time, but had previously mentioned in his Nov. 9 "Dancing with the Stars" blog that he was unsure if he'd be returning for season 24.

Hough follows Cheryl Burke to NBC

Derek Hough is not the first "Dancing with the Stars" notable to depart ABC in favor of NBC. Although she returned for the show's recently completed 23rd season and partnered Olympic champion Ryan Lochte to a respectable seventh place finish, Cheryl Burke left the series after season 19 to star in "I Can Do That!"

In addition to his new gig as a "World of Dance" judge, Hough will appear in NBC's "Hairspray Live!" production on Dec.
