Halloween brought a trick instead of a treat to Ryan Lochte who was eliminated from ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" after eight weeks. Viewers' votes had kept him on the show for that long. It had nothing to do with judges' scores because he ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard every single week. However, he was improving slightly with his partner Cheryl Burke.

Immunity from elimination

At the beginning of the show, Tom Bergeron made the announcement that Sharna Burgess receiveda knee injury last week when she stepped on her dress during rehearsal. She is not expected to return to the dance floor this season.

For the remainder of Season 23, Jenna Johnson is now partnered with James Hinchcliffe. Thankfully, having a new partner did not hinder James from getting a perfect score with his Viennese waltz on Monday night.

Getting a perfect score from the judges is always good, but it was extremely important last night because the person with a perfect score would get immunity from elimination. James and Jenna received a perfect score, and so did two other couples. Laurie Hernandez with partner Val Chmerkovskiy as well as Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold received perfect scores. To break the three-way tie, all cumulative scores from the judges during the entire season were considered before James Hinchcliffe was announced to have immunity from elimination.

For the record, Jenna Johnson was paired with Jake Austin during her very first season as a pro. They were the first to be eliminated. Because the elimination for Jenna came so quickly, it didn't give her much of a chance to display her talent. On her return, she impressed viewers by taking Sharna Burgess' place.

Sharna was upstairs and watched her former partner and Jenna win immunity.

Halloween performers

All couples hit the dance floor in masks and costumes with painted faces and hair.

They did their best with their selected dance and song. In the end, it was Ryan Lochte who was eliminated based on last week's scores. Someone else will be eliminated next week after totaling this week's judges' scores and viewers' votes from the Halloween dance and the dance-off. Watch "Dancing With The Stars" next week when the theme will be Broadway dances.
