With Steve Burton's (Dylan McAvoy) announcement that he's leaving "The Young and the Restless," fans jumped to the conclusion that Doug Davidson (Paul Williams) may be following him and leaving the show. Doug Davidson took to Twitter to reassure his fans that he has no plans on leaving the daytime soap opera.

Doug Davidson's long career

Davidson joined "The Young and the Restless" in 1978. He is currently the longest-running current cast member. He has been nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards five times, taking the coveted award in 2013.

His response to his fans

Doug is pretty active with his fans. He is often seen interacting and joking around with the viewers about the show and his personal life, as well.

It isn't a huge surprise that he addressed the rumor of his departure head on.

Davidson responded to the news of his departure by stating, " I am not leaving! Unless you know something, I don't. No plans or thought to leave the show."

What's next for Paul?

"The Young and the Restless" will have a big storyline for Paul coming up revolving his sister Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk). He will learn that Patty knows a huge secret and is holding it over Sharon's (Sharon Case) head. Apparently, he doesn't learn the juicy tidbit until after Patty escapes and is on the loose in Genoa City.

"The Young and the Restless" spoilers indicate that the residents of Genoa City will panic after learning that an unhinged Patty is on the loose and no one knows where she is.

Paul Williams stays put.

"Y&R" fans can rest assured that Paul Williams will remain in Genoa City, fighting crime like he has for almost 40 years.

Doug Davidson explained to a fan, "Don't worry, I'd only leave in a body bag, but I am carefully watching my cholesterol."

It looks like Davidson will continue to stay on to be the voice of reason at the Genoa City Police Department. "Y&R" fans are you glad that Paul will stick around in Genoa City after Dylan leaves? Are you glad Patty's back on canvas?
